Stout Performance Horses

Our Story

HappyOurs Ranch was founded in 1963 by our Grandad Shyrl Chamberlain in Lydia’s Canyon just north of Glendale in Southern Utah. For decades we have been breeding, raising, training and enjoying horses here on our ranch.  In the spring of 2020, we (brothers Steve and Hal Stout) along with our wives Sandi and Mercy, decided to take our passion for horses to another level. We started “Stout Performance Horses” (SPH).

Over the years, we have developed an appreciation for the horse breeding program at the Pitzer Ranch in Ericson, Nebraska. Pitzer Ranch’s breeding program highlights the bloodlines of their American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) hall of fame stallion Two Eyed Jack (1961-1991). In our experience, these “Two Eyed Jack” bred horses are some of the most versatile, easy to handle, athletic ranch-type horses that can be found anywhere in the country.

Recognizing the value of a well-bred stallion in a breeding program, we headed to Nebraska and purchased Quest Two Best. “Quest” is the own son of 2011 World Champion head horse and Battle in the Saddle Winner Show Me A Song Joes. Quest was trained in heading and heeling and made it to one AQHA show (the Black Hills Stock Show) before COVID 19 shut down horse shows in 2020. He earned 9.5 AQHA heading points in his first show. He has been genetically tested. He is five panel N/N and his color is smokey black.

We also recognize the vital contribution of a well-bred, good-minded, athletic mare. In addition to our stallion, most of our mares trace back to the great Two Eyed Jack. Our mare band also carries the genetics of other amazing horses, such as Highbrow Cat, Playgun, Peptoboonsmal, Smooth as a Cat, Zan Parr Bar, Shining Spark, Two Eyed Red Buck, Mr. Baron Red, Peppy San Badger, Bob Acre Doc, Docs Prescription, Great Resolve (Einstein), Mr. Joes Song, Dry Spec A Pepper, Two Eyed Bartender, Guthrie City Limits, Sixes Pick, and Paddy's Irish Whiskey.

We focus on breeding and training quality rope horses and working cow horses that are ideal for the arena, the trail and the branding pen. Our goal is to help you achieve your dreams for your horse program by providing you with the “Best”.
